SUMMARY:2026 WWA Members Discussion: Session 2 of 4
DESCRIPTION:12/17/2026 \nA new public charge rule proposed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security(DHS) would remove clear\, existing protections and give immigration officers broad discretion in deciding whether immigrant families are “likely to become a public charge.” If finalized\, this rule could deter families from accessing essential health\, nutrition\, and economic supports — even when they are eligible. \nNational WIC Association Take action today:The public comment period is open now. We urge you to submit a comment opposing these changes and demand that DHS withdraw this harmful proposal. This is not considered lobbying as they have solicited public comment; however\, check with your administration regarding your agency lobbying and advocacy guidelines. \nComment period is open until Dec 19 at midnight ET. Comments should be submitted online at https://www.regulations.gov/commenton/USCIS-2025-0304-0001. Either enter your comment in the textbox (must be fewer than 5000 characters) or upload your comments as a PDF. There is no length limit on PDF comments. (There is a maximum file size\, but you are allowed to submit multiple documents.) \nWWA has drafted a letter to submit for comment. Please add you personal experiences as desired.
